Fall Sale
Hi Everyone,
A few years ago, I found that most of my pieces were bought almost exclusively by art collectors and institutions. Occasionally I’d get asked by friends to make something for a first-year wedding anniversary (ahem—paper) and spending $1K+ wasn't an option for most. And so, Eight Emperors was created to provide a way to offer open-edition pieces at lower price points.
Spoiler Alert: there’s a coupon code at the end of this email, but first let me tell you a story.
An Origin Story
It began as a subscription. I thought a few friends might subscribe and get four mystery pieces sent out each year. Almost immediately we were completely overwhelmed. Keeping track of international shipping, when subscriptions start and stop, and roughly a thousand other details was too much for someone who folds paper for a living. It lasted about a year and a half before we stopped taking new subscribers.
And so, Eight Emperors changed course and became a regular webshop where early collectors who want a small piece of art in their home can find a number of options at an affordable price point.
Sure, you might love a 48" x 48" piece, but would you have the space in your home to hang it? The biggest Eight Emperors' piece is 18" x 24", and the smallest is 2.5" x 2.5". Each is carefully and meticulously crafted, and has a price point between $50 and $500.
Take a look:
Everything is made in my studio in Ann Arbor and shipped right to your door. Most are bought as gifts for unsuspecting friends and spouses. I LOVE hearing from people who send photos of the work up in their homes. While it's always exciting to see one of my large-scale pieces on display in a museum, there's something particularly special about seeing an Eight Emperors' piece in someone's home:
We've been reshooting the collection this year and hope to re-up a few pieces that have been sold out . . . and launch a few new series in the coming months. Check out the full current collection now at eightemperors.com!
